auditXYLEM WATER SOLUTIONS UK TO OFFER ENERGY AUDITING FOR UK CUSTOMERS

Xylem Water Solutions UK can now offer energy audits to customers across the country, in line with the new European Energy Directive (EED).

The EED, approved by the European Union’s Energy Commission, came into force at the end of 2012. Member states now need to fully implement the directive within buildings and industrial processes by September 2014.

Xylem Water Solutions UK are now qualified to provide energy auditing services as a result of a recent investment in staff training, having put four engineers through the Certified Pump System Auditor (CSPA) scheme in accordance with ASME EA2-2009 or ISO 14414. CSPA accreditation, developed by the British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA), is a universally recognised and respected standard for individuals and corporations assessing pumping systems.

The energy auditing process involves six steps:

1/ Preliminary audit of the pumps, drives and system.

2/ Detailed Audit.

3/ Commercial proposal or the savings.

4/ The products.

5/ Finance.

6/ Maintain and Monitor.

Under the EED, enterprises that are not SME’s are “subject to an energy audit carried out in an independent and cost-effective manner by qualified and/or accredited experts or implemented and supervised by independent authorities under national legislation by three years after entry into force of the directive and at least every four years from the date of the previous energy audit”

Duncan Lewis, managing director of Xylem Water Solutions UK, comments: “Energy consumption is a hotly debated topic across the globe, and given the European Union’s plans to dramatically reduce its emissions, energy audits will become a fundamental regulatory tool.

“Xylem’s energy auditing capabilities emphasises our position as a leading force within the pumping industry and further illustrates our commitment to working to make the world a more sustainable and environmentally efficient place.”

Fluid handling pumps, fans, compressors and motors account for over 60% of energy usage, 24.8% on pump applications.
